FYC Takes Storm in New Title
December 27th, 2009
Before the Christmas weekend, FYC eSports ventured into a new title for competitive gaming. Since it's release, Modern Warfare 2 has been the stir of any talk in the gaming scene. A questionable area as to whether it will be picked up by Major League Gaming for the 2010 Pro Circuit because of it's challenges with the system linked multiplayer. Someone needed to spike off a tournament to see how this game will fare later on down the road, so the prestigious World Cyber Games stepped in. On December 12th and 13th, the WCG hosted their annual Holiday Heroes tournament featuring Street Fighter 4, DJ Hero, and, Modern Warfare 2. Sixteen teams were invited to play in the tournament and FYC was one of them. With the team commencing together early Saturday morning, they hit a rather large bump in the road. One player from the squad was a no-show, forcing the team to make a last minute pick up at the door. As the time for check-in wound down, team captain Roberto 'Banguout' Rivera added 'CJ Camilla' to the roster, and the team rolled into the Samsung Experience in New York City.

FYC was scheduled to play their first match at 4pm, allowing them to watch some matches and observe the feel for the game. Time rolled by and FYC prepared for their first match against Dos Equis. A touch match for the team as they had to improvise on strategy and try to hang tough but it wouldn't hold off. FYC dropped their first match 0-2 and was put in a very familiar territory for any tournament they are in, do-or-die. FYC proceeded to take on Axis, where new life was shown. FYC trampled over their opponent 2-0 and sat at 1-1 in pool play. The final match FYC would play in the round robin would be Empire Effect. Sitting in the same boat as FYC, Empire Effect was also in d-o-d. A gridiron match that only saw two maps as FYC won, advancing them to Championship Sunday, 2-0 over Empire Effect, going 2-1 in pool play and earning the 5th seed for the Championship bracket.

The team recommenced Sunday morning where they would be put up against some serious competition. For not having the full roster, FYC was playing very well with excellent communication and teamwork, and it shown, and was noticed. FYC's first match of the Champ Bracket was against FeaR, the 2008 MLG National Champions and 2009 MLG National Runner Up. A good team to say the least. FYC fell quickly 1-0 and was pinned against one of the best teams of the game in Highrise SnD, where they put up a good fight, but fell 3-4 and dropped the series 0-2. In the Losers Bracket, the next opponent was unLocked. Last year, FYC GoW2 ran into some trouble with the power shutting down while playing, and guess what, it happened again. The first map was Terminal Demo, where FYC stormed through unLocked 2-0, taking a 1-0 series lead. uL then chose Highrise SnD. As close as it could get, FYC went up a steady 3-1 and needed one round to advance. uL didn't go down without a fight, crawling back and eventually taking the map 4-3, tying the series at 1-1. The tiebreaker was set for Scrapyard CTF. First round, tied 0-0, the power shuts down. No problem. Second try. First round, the caps were tied at 2-2 when Doolz was 'one second' away from making a third cap for FYC when the power shut down again. In disgust, Doolz, and the rest of the team tried to fight for that third cap, but it wouldn't happen. Banguout had to break the news that the map would restart, again.

After about ten minutes of making sure the power was running smoothly, the map began. FYC fell very quickly 1-4 in caps with two minutes left in the final round and it seemed as this would be the end of a great story for FYC eSports. Not yet. With excellent coordination by 'Banguout' and pressure from 'Explozion' and 'CJ Camilla', Doolz was able to stay alive for the remainder of the round and cap not one, not two, but three flags to tie the map at 4-4. Every eye in the building was on FYC, and rightfully so. Banguout let everyone know with his loud yells and positive attitude. FYC did not go quietly. With about thirty seconds left, unLocked pushed hard and capped the last flag and the series decider, ending the map and sending FYC home in 7th place, securing an invite to the 2010 US Qualifiers.

Congratulation to FYC's Modern Warfare 2 team on their success in the World Cyber Games.
